Here are some notes on "Boy Meets Girl".
Jesus is saying that what really matters in life is to love God with every fiber of our being, heart, soul, mind, strength, and to let that love spill over into the way we treat our fellow man. He's telling us that if we want to get life right, we need to make it about God. Another way to put it is that we need to see God's glory as the purpose of every part of life. "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God" 1 Corinthians 10:31
"Living to glorify God means doing everything for Him, His way, to point to His greatness and reflect His goodness. When our relationships are truly "for God", these essentials will be present.
1. Joyful obedience to God's Word. Deut. 4:2 says, "Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God."
2. The selfless desire to do what's best for the other person. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Luke 6:31
ie. Is starting this relationship now what's best for him/her? Will expressing my feeling now serve him/her? etc.
3. The humble embrace of community. We need our parent's wisdom, we need the support of our church, and to remind us God's commands. We need Christian friends to comfort and encourage us.
4. A commitment to guard the sacredness of sex.
5. A deep satisfaction in God. Before two people can please God as a couple, they must first be individuals who want God more than anything else and who know that only He can satisfy the longings in their souls.
Singles have one usual problem: Our mind-set is, "God, tell me who, tell me how, tell me when-and then I'll trust you." What God wants us to see is that if He did this, our trust wouldn't be real. We want a definitive answer so we won't feel vulnerable, weak, and dependent on Him. And it's only when we realize our true condition that God can demonstrate His strength and love on our behalf.
This is only the first of four sections in the book, so you're gonna have to read this book in order to get the whole picture. = P
This weekend has been very interesting. I came home on Friday, and I went to North York General hospital to feed my grandma, but they wouldn't allow visitors, and they didn't give me a reason. I was disappointed and a tad frustrated at the fact that I don't know when I'll see my grandma again. As it turns out, if I had gone in to visit on Friday, I would have to be quarantined like my parents, sister, and 5 other family members and friends. Looking back, it was God's protection over me, since I had to go back to London for school.
I also had a driving instructor 'prep' me for my G2 exit road test on Sat., and it's amazing how God can use you anywhere, anytime. My instructor asked me why I was doing the test at Morningside, and not Aurora. I told him it's close to my church and so I'm familiar with those routes, and the 401 there. That led to me witnessing to him about my faith. He's a Buddhist, and he was actually interested about what I had to say. The hard part was I had to speak in cantonese; so it was kinda challenging, but those hard chinese terms came to me somehow. Praise the Lord!
